PEERMUSIC TO REP BICYCLE MUSIC IN ANZ

Music publisher peermusic finalised a long-term sub-publishing agreement to represent the copyrights controlled by Bicycle Music in Australia and New Zealand. Peermusic already reps them in South America and South East Asia. The 120,000 copyrights include 750 Billboard chart hits, including the works of George Harrison, John Fogerty, The Cramps, The Polyphonic Spree and Wall Of Voodoo. Titles encompass Always On My Mind, Have You Ever Seen The Rain, Bust A Move, Here Comes The Sun, Mexican Radio, Sugar Baby Love, Guantanamera, Run Through The Jungle, The Letter and Wild Thing.

KATY PERRY, LIONEL RICHIE, RENEW WITH ASCAP

Katy Perry and Lionel Richie renewed their agreements with ASCAP, the American Society of Songwriters, Composers and Publishers. Perry who has been with ASCAP for 10 years said, “ASCAP was in my corner before anyone knew who I was. That’s one of the many reasons I’m loyal to them.”

Richie for his part explained, “When you’ve been in the music industry for as long as I have, you know there are some people you can truly depend on. ASCAP has always had my best interests at heart as a songwriter.”

FIELD BROS ALBUM THROUGH ABC MUSIC

ABC Music/ Universal Music will release The Field Brothers (John and Paul Field), of The Cockroaches and Wiggles fame. The two have an album Every Day Is Like An Elvis Movie out on October 28. Guests on the record include Greedy Smith on harmonica and Bill Chambers on steel guitar, with Hannah May Buckley on one track.

HOLDEN CONTINUES SPONSORSHIP WITH X-FACTOR

GM Holden, currently on a campaign to entice younger car buyers, has extended its sponsorship for a third year with X Factor Australia which returned on Monday night and on again on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. But this time, its spots will take a new tack for the Seven Network show. They will be a series of integrated TVCs, which will allow viewers to get better acquainted with the show’s new host Jason Dundas.

Paul Balbo, GM Holden’s Senior Manager Media and Brand Partnerships, said, “The X Factor has proved to be a powerful platform for Holden to connect with new audiences through their passion for music. Our hope with this next season is that as viewers get to know the real Jason, they also get to know a little more about the real Holden.”

JOSH CASHMAN JOINS PARADIGM TALENT

Melbourne singer-songwriter Josh Cashman has signed his overseas bookings with Paradigm Talent Agency. It comes in the wake of single Patience getting airplay on 50 US stations and going Top 30 on the Spotify U.S viral charts.

21-year-old Cashman has pacted with Onelove Management and Mushroom Publishing. A new single Wishful Imagery is off a 2017-due EP, which he previews on shows this month through Sydney and Melbourne.

WEINSTEIN CO. BEHIND JAY-Z MOVE TO FILMS, TV

The Weinstein Company has inked a film and TV first-look overall deal with Jay Z as he moves further into films and TV. The deal, initially for two years, covers the entrepreneur and rapper’s scripted and unscripted projects. Some are already in development.

BERLEI CREATES AMPHLETT BRA

Australian lingerie company Berlei has created the limited edition Chrissy Brain honour of Chrissie Amphlett, with all proceeds going to the Breast Cancer Network Australia. It is part of the I Touch Myself campaign (itouchmyself.org). A number of female musicians – including Catherine Britt, Katy Steele, Ngaiire, Little May, Montaigne, Virginia Lillye and Christa Hughes – have posed topless to raise awareness of breast cancer.

SPIRIT TEAMS WITH GLOBAL

Spirit Music Group struck a long-term strategic administration and co-publishing deal with Global Entertainment, the multi-faceted music company behind Ellie Goulding, Corinne Bailey Rae, Jungle, The Script, LMFAO, The Vaccines and The Vamps, among others. Global also operates the UK’s largest commercial radio network, reaching 30 million listeners.

YOUNG JAZZ ELDER RETURNS

Melbourne community radio station PBS 106.7FM and Melbourne International Jazz Festival have brought back the 2017 PBS Young Elder of Jazz Commission. The Commission promotes innovation and excellence in jazz composition, and is open to Victorian jazz composers under the age of 36.

It awards $10,000 for the creation and presentation of a new work to be broadcast on PBS and premiered at the 2017 Melbourne International Jazz Festival (MIJF). Applications are open from Monday October 10 to 5pm Friday October 28 at www.pbsfm.org.au.

BILLY DAVIS LEARNS GOOD MANNERS

Huw Nolan and Hugh McClure’s label/management and publicity company Good Manners has added Melbourne soul singer Billy Davis to its roster.

FOOTSTOMP, KADENCE, MANAGING TIA GOSTELOW

Footstomp Music and Kadence Group have jointly taken over management of Queensland singer-songwriter and CMAA Academy of Country Music graduate Tia Gostelow. Her debut single State Of Art won triple j Unearthed High’s Indigenous Initiative. Now having left high school, she’s to drop a new single Vague Utopia and announce her first headline tour for early 2017. She made her debut with her new band, made up of Gold Coast outfit Ivey at BIGSOUND.

KOBALT ACQUIRES FINTAGE MUSIC DIVISION

Kobalt, has acquired Fintage House’s Neighbouring Rights and Publishing businesses, in a deal that will see all Fintage clients (including Bruce Springsteen, Katy Perry and Britney Spears) integrated into Kobalt’s roster which boasts names as Sam Smith and Paul McCartney.

CYRUS AUDIO NAMES NEW AUSSIE DISTRIBUTOR

UK audio company Cyrus Audio announced as its new Australian distributor Indi Imports, which came into being two years ago under Managing Director Paul Riachi and includes brands as Myryad, Sonoro, SA Loudspeakers and AMC.

COOKING VINYL BUYS INTO FAT CAT

Cooking Vinyl, which has an office in Australia, has bought into Brighton, UK-based Fat Cat Records and will work with founders Alex knight and Dave Cawley to expand internationally. Fat Cat previously worked with Sigur Ros, Animal Collective and Frightened Rabbit, and has a current roster of Honeyblood, C Duncan, Ian William Craig, Oliver Alary, Big Deal, PAWS, Tal National, Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch and Dmitry Evgrafov.
