National Live Music Awards announce 2018 cities & venues; NSW event moves from Sydney to the Gong
The National Live Music Awards (NLMAs) have revealed the cities and venues set to hold seven simultaneous events around Australia for its 3rd annual affair on Thursday, December 6.
The main event will be held in Brisbane at The Triffid, where 27 awards are handed out—including the new category of Live Music Photographer Of The Year, and the renamed Drummer Award is now known as The Sheedy after the late drummer and journalist Iain Shedden.
Award’s director Larry Heath said, “We’re thrilled to be bringing the gala to Queensland for the first time.
“We held our inaugural event at The Triffid and we’re excited to return to one of our favourite venues in the country for the biggest event of the night.”
He added that at each of the seven satellite events around the country, 4-5 awards will be handed out alongside a number of live performances, “with one event in every state and territory, making the awards a truly national celebration.”
After taking over hosting duties last year, the event will return to Melbourne, taking over The Old Bar, which won the Best Live Venue state gong in 2017.
The Grace Emily, which won for South Australia twice, will host the Adelaide event.
In Tasmania, the NLMAs return to Hobart after showcasing Launceston in 2017, with the Hobart Brewing Company playing host.
After a year away from Darwin, The Railway Club will once again welcome the NT leg of the awards, as it did in the inaugural year, after winning the Best Live Venue in 2017.
Canberra’s 2016 venue, The Phoenix, will play host in the capital city.
Perth’s The Sewing Room will be see the WA leg, awarding the final trophies of the night.
For NSW, there’s a shift from Sydney to Wollongong (to Rad Bar) to celebrate its growing music scene.
