SCA APPOINTS DAVE CAMERON AS MELBOURNE GM
Dave Cameron officially begins tomorrow (July 1) as GM of Southern Cross Austereo’s Melbourne operations.
He will continue to head up SCA’s national talent development unit and digital radio strategy.
“He brings his extensive experience and expertise in content across a number of SCA businesses in several locations,”SCA COO John Kelly.
Cameron added: “After two decades of working across SCA’s content, I’m excited to now be taking on a broader management role in Melbourne.
“Melbourne has been the home of so many of SCA’s biggest and best shows, and I’m proud to be working alongside all our amazingly creative and dedicated Melbourne staff who are responsible for bringing our audiences great audio and visual entertainment.”
Cameron had his start at Austereo Melbourne in 1994 and worked in four of its metro hubs across the Triple M and Hit networks.
Over the past twelve months he held SCA’s national content and development role, overseeing key national shows, leading SCA’s digital radio strategy, managing talent development, and creating new SCA partnerships including the major live concert series, RnB Fridays Live.
SPIRIT RE-UPS CHAIRMAN
Independent music publisher Spirit Music Group has renewed its contract with Chairman David Renzer – and made him CEO and Chairman.
Renzer joined in 2014 after being Chairman & CEO of Universal Music Publishing Group.
Working with Spirit’s 75,000-strong catalogue, he expanded its presence in Latin, country and production, and ensured Spirit signings had songs on best-selling albums by Ed Sheeran (Johnny McDaid had eight co-writes on Divide), Rag N Bone Man and Chris Stapleton.
TURNER EXITING MUSIC VICTORIA
After 2 ½ years as Operations and Marketing Administrator at Music Victoria, Chloe Turner is taking up a position at Creative Partnerships Australia.
MATT ABRAHAM QUITS ABC ADELAIDE
Matthew Abraham, of the ABC Adelaide breakfast duo Matt and Dave, presents his final show at the station this morning.
Presenting solo at the station in the 1990s, the team-up with David Bevan began in 2002. The first nine years was on Mornings, then since 2011 on Breakfast.
The pair were hugely popular, 34 times (and the last 13 years consecutively) #1 on Breakfast. Bevan continues with the show solo.
DAVE ALLEN LEAVES APPLE MUSIC
Gang of Four bassist Dave Allen, who’s been in the Artist Relations team at Apple Music and Beat Radio linking brands and bands since its launch in 2015, has taken those skills elsewhere.
He’s joined Portland creative agency North Inc. as Director of Artist and Music Industry Advocacy, finding artists new sources of revenue that go directly to them and brand deals that are a reflection of the artist’s values.
4ZZZ’S KIM STEWART ADVOCATE FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
With 4ZZZ Brisbane’s four-decade-plus track record for diversity and inclusion, it has appointed Kim Stewart as Station Advocate for people with disabilities.
The station said in a statement, “With as much as 37% of community radio listeners having a disability, the station hopes to enable more of this large proportion of their listeners to be active at the station in a wide range of roles.”
A 4ZZZ volunteer for 17 years, social justice has been a large part of Stewart’s programming as a radio producer, former board member and facilitator of a number of training projects including people from diverse backgrounds and disadvantage.
She has also been running radio groups in the community under the banner of Ability Radio Projectfor three years.
4ZZZ General Manager Claire Whiting says, “A new position of Station Advocate will enable us to support people with a disability (PWD) to connect with the volunteer base and become an integral part of our grass roots media and local music community.”
BICYCLE MUSIC COMPANY JOINS NMPA BOARD
US-based independent music publisher and rights manager Bicycle Music Company’s CEO Jake Wisely has joined the board of the National Music Publishers’ Association.
He runs the group’s publishing division, and over a 30-year career, worked at ASCAP, EMI Music Publishing, Universal Music Publishing and eMusic.com.
DJ KUNGS GETS RADIO SHOW
French DJ and producer Kungs is probably best known for his hit remix of Melbourne band Cookin’ on 3 Burners’s This Girl, has his own monthly show Rendez-Vous on SiriusXM’s BPM channel.
SiriusXM’s President and Chief Content Officer, Scott Greenstein, hails the 20-year-old as “the next big thing in global dance music.”
His This Girl remix topped the European Breakout charts, climbed up to #26 on the Billboard Hot 100 last year and has tallied nearly half a billion Spotify streams to date.
TOM GORDON LECTURING IN MUSIC CERTIFICATE IV
Adelaide musician and manager Tom Gordon returns to the Music SA team’ for its Certificate IV of Music Business as a lecturer.
Aside from performing with Horror My Friend and West Thebarton, he is also manager of Siamese, and will be imparting his touring, and management expertise to students.
