SCA’S WADE STARTS OWN COMPANY

Southern Cross Austereo confirmed that the head of its tactics and integration brand The Studio, Wade Kingsley, is leaving the post to start his own business.

But he will continue to work with SCA across a number of areas. “We will have further news on how and in what capacity this will happen.”

Kingsley joined SCA in 2015 from Nova Entertainment Before that he was GM of the Vizeum media agency.

NEW HEAD FOR RIAA

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) announced that its current Senior Executive Vice President Mitch Glazier will take the helm, initially as President, and then as Chairman and CEO in January 2019.

Gary Sherman, who has worked at the RIAA for 20 years in different capacities, will retire at the end of 2018.

CHANGE IN NLMA BOARD

As the National Live Music Awards (NLMAs) announcedtheir return for a second year at the end of 2017, they also announced that music journalist Kate Hennessy has joined their 10-person board.

She replaces Maggie Collins who has decided to focus on BIGSOUND, which is expanding its format this year.

BEN ERBSLAND TAKES NOVA LATE NIGHTS

Ben Erbsland (left) takes over Nova’s national Late Nights from May 1. He takes over from Simon Baggs. Erbsland moves to Sydney for the role from Melbourne, where he is with Nova 100 as weekend announcer and in an operations role in its programming team.

Erbsland cut his teeth on radio on community radio, on Fresh 92.7FM Adelaide. After graduating from the Australian Radio School on a scholarship, he moved to SCA’s Hit107 doing nights before Nova poached him for 91.9.

DAVID TEMPLEMAN BECOMES WA ARTS MINISTER

David Templeman is WA’s new Minister for Local Government; Culture and the Arts; and Leader of the House in the Legislative Assembly.

The one time entertainer who describes himself as a theatre tragic says he wanted the Minister for Arts portfolio even before he became a parliament.

“Passion for theatre and the arts is a critical and central part of who we are and we must never underestimate the impact of arts and culture,” he said.

NEW APPLE EXEC TO OVERSEE VIDEO MOVE

It seems Apple has brought in former Spotify and YouTube staffer, Shiva Rajaraman. It hasn’t specified what his role is, but it seems to be related to its plans to introduce more original movie and web series.

NEW PROGRAM MANAGER FOR BUSH BANDS

Laurie May is the new Program Manager of the Northern Territory’s Bush Bands.

May has been involved with Music NT as coordinator of the Desert Divas Vol. II. A spoken word artist herself, she was also Director of the Red Dust Poetry Festival.

ACE OPEN ANNOUNCES CEO

South Australia’s ACE Open, which came into being in late 2016 via the Contemporary Art Centre of SA and the Australian Experimental Art Foundation, officially launches in July. But it has announced its team, including Liz Nowell as Director/CEO.

Curator is Toby Chapman, Business and Operations Manager is Sarita Burnett, Public Programs Coordinator is Vivian Cooper, and Marketing and Communications Manager is Stephanie Lyall.

RADIO COPYWRITERS SET UP RADIO AGENCY

Award winning radio copywriters Josh Langley and Andy Macleod have figured that many of the outsourced writers don’t understand the medium.

So they’ve set up a dedicated radio creative agency, the WA-based Outside Creative, to serve metro and regional radio.

GREG BOLDERROW RETIRES

After 46 years with Southern Cross Austereo in Wide Bay, Greig Bolderrow has retired. Growing up in Maryborough, at 17 he joined the station a day after his final exams. He ran through a couple of roles – night and breakfast announcer, sales – before becoming GM 33 years ago.

A tireless community worker, he quips he had another job that gave him as much satisfaction as radio: each month he’d play the character of Huttin the Hangman in the ghost tours in Maryborough.

NEW GIG FOR FAMOUS EDITOR

Former Famous editor Keshnee Kemp takes over as the new editor of Cosmopolitan on April 10, Bauer Media confirmed.

Her predecessor Claire Askew left to spend more time with her family. Celebrity news-hungry Famous was axed last year as a print title.

TAG CREATES NEW ROLE FOR DAVIDSON

Sydney-based national pro audio company Technical Audio Group (TAG), which supplies gear for concert tours, has created a consultant liaison role for Bryan Davidson to help design their system networks.

Davidson held a similar consultancy role with South Australia’s A/V distributor Hills. Before that he was for 25 years Senior Sales Engineer for EVI Australia / APAC / Bosch Communications.
