Music Industry Review Report to be Published on Thursday
The Music Industry Review Report will become available tomorrow morning (Thursday) at 9 a.m.
The full report and accompanying information will be available here.
The facilitators of the report noted that its contents may be distressing.
“We encourage you to consider what support and care might be needed for you and those around you during the coming weeks,” they said. “It’s good practice to seek consent before discussing the report and its recommendations.”
They also provided the details of numerous support services, which are outlined below.
The review was led by consultants Alexandra Shehadie and Sam Turner, and looked into sexual harm, harassment and systemic discrimination in the Australian music industry. It spoke to various people across the industry either in person or via focus groups or anonymous submissions.
It was not set up as an investigation to ‘name and shame’ perpetrators and won’t be setting out to identify specific incidents of harm.
Instead, it will be a comprehensive examination of the industry’s culture of sexual harm and what can be done to fix it.
The success of the report will come down to the industry – particularly those with influence and power – accepting the report and its recommendations, and then implementing long-term, sustainable and measurable cultural change.
“[Success will be] a music industry where everyone is safe and respected,” a person involved with the report said previously. “In those instances where people do suffer harm, there should be safe processes and mechanisms in place for them to report and for perpetrators to be held to account.
“So success will be when the industry’s culture is inclusive and safe for all, and there is strong accountability.”
In February, the initiative reached NSW Parliament, which passed a motion of support in favour of the Review.
