MTV to kick-start three careers with global campaign

Former Editor

MTV has announced an international campaign to offer its fans a chance to kick-start a career in the creative industries.

Through its international, multi-platform initiative MTV Breaks, three young adults aged 18 to 26-years-old will be given the opportunity to work on high-profile entertainment events, the first being this year’s MTV Europe Music Awards in Glasgow.

The three winners will work as a photographer, costume designer or camera operator at this year’s show in November.

Simon Bates, Director of MTV Australia and New Zealand told TMN: “At MTV we are passionate about research and better understanding our millennial audience. It’s clear from talking to young people internationally and locally, that youth unemployment is of growing concern (currently at 14.1 per cent in Australia – the highest level since October, 2001).

“MTV Breaks is our way of responding to that research, with a global campaign that offers talented, creative young people the unique opportunity to work with MTV at the 2014 MTV EMA in Glasgow, Scotland this November.”

The campaign also offers online resources like news and profiles on creative industry professionals at mtvbreaks.tv and will also host a series of free workshops in Glasgow around the 2014 MTV EMAs.

To enter for the photography break, upload a photo to your own Instagram that captures a moment about your day that you love. Hashtag the image with #MTVBreaks and #Photographer

To enter for the costume designer break, upload a picture to your own Instagram of the best costume design you’ve sketched or made. Hashtag it #MTVBreaks and #Designer.

To enter to be our camera person, upload a video to your own Instagram – 15 seconds or less – that shows us how you see your world. Hashtag it #MTVBreaks #Cameraperson

The deadline for entries is September 19.

MTV plan to announce similar opportunities via the MTV Breaks campaign in the future.
