More performers named for 2018 ARIA awards, “Each one has left their mark on 2018”

After earlier announcing that 5 Seconds of Summer and Britain’s Rita Ora will tread the boards at the ARIA awards, the Australian Recording Industry Association (ARIA) this morning announced more performers.

They include awards host Keith Urban, hall of fame inductee Kasey Chambers, Apple Music album of the year nominees Amy Shark and Courtney Barnett, and best male artist nominee Dean Lewis.

Dan Rosen, ARIA chief executive says, “ARIA is thrilled to welcome this amazing group of artists to the ARIAs stage.

“Each one of these acts has left their mark on 2018, thrilling and engaging music fans across Australia and around the world. I personally cannot wait to see each of these performances!’’

Each is represented on Apple Music via playlists, songs, albums, and music videos.

5 Seconds of Summer are up for four gongs, for best Australian live act, best group, best pop release and Apple Music song off the year.

The ‘Youngblood’ single and album, both which topped the ARIA charts, the single for eight weeks.

The album also peaked at #1 on the US Billboard charts, becoming their third consecutive #1 album there.

Gold Coast-hailed Amy Shark is nominated nine times.

They are for Apple Music album of the year, best Australian live act, best cover art, best female artist, best pop release, best video, engineer of the year, producer of the year, and Apple Music song of the year.

She already took out the producer gong as part of the Artisan categories.

Courtney Barnett has nine ticks in the nominations list, generated by her second album Tell Me How You Really Feel through her own Milk! Records which reached #2 on the ARIA Album Chart and her collab with Kurt Vile Lotta Sea Lice.

The album’s success saw her tour internationally, especially in the US and the UK where she got critical acclaim, and where US TV shows as The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, The Jimmy Kimmel Show, Seth Meyers and CBS Saturday Morning booked her for appearances.

Barnett’s nominations are for Apple Music album of the year, best Australian live act, best female artist, best independent release, best adult independent release, best rock album, best video, engineer of the year (which she already won) and producer of the year.

Dean Lewis has five opportunities to go up to the winner’s podium on the night.

He is in the running for best Australian live act, best male artist, best pop release, best video and Apple Music song of the year.

Most of his noms were for his four times platinum single ‘Be Alright’, which spent five consecutive weeks at #1 on the ARIA Singles Chart.

The track also reached top five in New Zealand and Sweden, and top 40 in the UK, Ireland and several other countries, being streamed over 175 million times.

As reported in TMN this week, Kasey Chambers ranks with Kylie Minogue and Olivia Newton-John for most #1 albums.

Keith Urban returns from his home in Nashville to grace the ARIAs stage for the first time I over a decade.

Earlier this year, his first studio album in nearly two years Graffiti U debuted at #2 on the ARIA Album Charts.

The singer-songwriter is no stranger to the ARIA Charts, with a total of 14 ARIA platinum-selling singles and albums, earning him a total of 5 ARIA awards.

The awards ceremony is broadcast live on Wednesday, November 28 on the Nine Network
