Meet the Overseas Recognition Award noms for the APRA Global Music Awards
Australia’s influence over the global music market is undeniable. To celebrate our contribution to the inclusive and dynamic international industry we have today, APRA AMCOS has launched the Global APRA Music Awards.
Within the three sonically diverse regions of Los Angeles, Nashville and London, three individuals will be honoured with the ‘Overseas Recognition Award’.
Kicking off in Los Angeles, multi-platinum songwriter Flume is a household name to many, culminating in his 2017 Grammy win. Equally successful, Sarah Aaron is also a multi-Platinum artist, holding co-writes on U.S.chart-topping singles.
Being dubbed a ‘Spotify secret genius‘, our own Alex Hope is a masterful collaborator working with the likes of Troye Sivan. And with LA resident Joel Little already nabbing a Grammy for ‘Song of the Year’, he doesn’t have much more to prove.
Venturing further into America, the nominees for Nashville are exemplified in writer and drummer Paul Mabury, who’s success was solidified in his Grammy for Best Contemporary Christian Music Song.
Multi-instrumentalist and producer Rick Price, has had a profound impact on the country music scene alongside sweetheart Mia Fieldes. Being a worship leader and Sydneysider originally, Fieldes has collaborated with top Christian artists on a global scale.
Nominees Seaforth, a duo who are also Sydney locals, recently signed a worldwide deal with Sony Nashville almost on the spot, which signals their dominance in the highly competitive region.
And the London offering doesn’t falter, with electro-pop ensemble Parcels uniquely computerised production methods set them apart from the rest. Certainly their collaboration with electronic heavyweights Daft Punk aided immensely in honing their craft.
Former The Voice contestant-turned festival mainstay Cloves’s success is comparable to that of fellow contender Jordan Rakei.
Through lending his vocals to Disclosure and clocking over 100 million Spotify streams, Rakei is certainly a talent to behold. Rounding out the list, musical wizard Jed Kurzel – who has mastered the domains of songwriting, scoring and performing – will let his reputation speak for itself.
Winners will be announced across the three different cities starting on the 26th of February. Yet, despite the results, we know that our unpredictable and unrelenting Australian talent will never cease shaping the music industry.
