MAX channel gets set for 1000 Greatest Songs of All Time countdown

Foxtel’s MAX channel is spending the Easter long weekend counting off its annual 1000 Greatest Songs Of All Time.

Hosted by “Molly” Meldrum, it begins tomorrow (Good Friday) at noon and winds up at 6pm on Monday April 2.

Fraser Stark, Foxtel’s Arts & Music Channels general manager said, “MAX is clearly the destination for music greats and their great music but what particular song is the ‘greatest’?

“Last year it was terrific to see so many fans of the channel have their say, so to see voting explode in 2018 – to over 30,000 votes – is exciting.

“With the list compiled by our viewers, consultation with a slew of famous artists, much heated debate here at the channel and, of course, the wisdom of the one-and-only, Molly Meldrum, we are set for a huge countdown”

According to the channel, thousands of votes have come in over the last few weeks.

Musicians have also chimed in with their choices.

Ed Sheeran cast his vote for Don McLean’s ‘American Pie’ as his favourite.

Chris Isaak opted for Roy Orbison’s ‘Pretty Woman’, Tina Arena nominated Prince’s ‘Purple Rain’ and Pete Murray reckoned the best was Foo Fighters’ ‘Everlong’.

Top picks also came from INXS, Midnight Oil, Killing Heidi, Hanson, Human Nature, Peking Duk, James Blunt, Vance Joy, Paul Kelly and Kasey Chambers.

Last year’s winner was Queen’s ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ while John Farnham’s ‘You’re the Voice’ and Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’ were in the Top 10.

All voted songs must have a licensed broadcast music video available.

The full list of the 2018 ‘1000 Greatest Songs of All Time’ will be available at Maxtv.com.au from 9am on Tuesday April 3.
