Matt Corby and Tim Finn to make Woodford Folk Festival debut
Both Matt Corby and Tim Finn make their Woodford Folk Festival debuts this year, along with sets from Berth Orton, Julian Marley, Busby Marou, The Basics, Clare Bowditch and The Break.
Now in its 28th year, the festival is held December 27 to January 1 in Woodfordia in Queensland.
Others announced included Blue King Brown, Wes Carr’s Buffalo Tales, Chance Waters, Thelma Plum, Shellie Morris, Phoebe Starr, Jordie Lane, Brendan Maclean, GANGgajang, The Twoks, Canada’s Half Moon Run and Rose Cousins, France’s Babylon Circus, and Scotland’s Breabach and Rachel Sermanni.
Organisers say that the 500 acts doing 1235 shows in 28 venues range from Celtic dance to cabaret pop to Bollywood surf funk to comedy to Indigenous traditional and contemporary music and movement to slide guitar heroes to Tibetan monks to Japanese drumming spectaculars.
Current affairs speakers include former PM Bob Hawke, his novelist wife Blanche d’Alpuget, Professor Ian Lowe, Dr. Stuart Glastonbury, Anna Rose, Simon Sheikh, Denise Scott, Susan Johnson, Benjamin Law, Michelle Law, Melanie Tait, Kevin James Carroll, Robert Pekin and Dr. Jessica North.
Festival Director Bill Hauritz remarked, “We aim to give our precious patrons a deeper cultural encounter. We offer the complete experience from great food, comfortable and stimulating surrounds with challenging presentations across a broad spectrum of spoken word, music, craft, dance, comedy and workshops.”
