Major Lazer & DJ Snake’s Lean On hits 2 billion YouTube views
American EDM outfit Major Lazer and French DJ Snake have joined an elite click club. The video for Lean On, filmed in two Indian cities, has exceeded 2 billion views on YouTube.
Others in the club include Psy, who was first to reach the mark in June 2014 with the K-pop hit Gangnam Style – which has now hit 2.8 billion views – Taylor Swift, Charlie Puth and Justin Bieber.
Lean On, which features Danish singer MØ, was released in March 2015 as the lead-off single from Major Lazer’s Peace Is The Mission album.
It spent 47 weeks in the TMN Hot 100, including a week at number one, meaning it was the most-heard single on Aussie radio that week; it reached #4 on the ARIA chart, and ranked #6 in the best sellers in Australia for 2015.
It also topped the charts in Ireland, the Netherlands, Mexico, New Zealand, Finland, Denmark and Switzerland. Its peak position in the US was #4, and #2 in the UK.
It was the fifth best seller of 2015 worldwide and one of the best-selling singles of all time with global sales of 13.1 million.
In November 2015, Lean On was the most streamed track on Spotify. By April 2017 it had over 968 million streams globally on that platform but has since been overtaken by Drake’s One Dance.
It has also been used in the teaser for the Nexus 5X, the dance video game Dance 2017, sports video game NBA 2K16 and the movie How To Be Single.
Major Lazer are currently working on a project called Tuborg OPEN. In a partnership with Danish lager brand Tuborg, they will work with three collaborators around the world to add to a track they’ve created.
The first of the collaborators is Russian hip hop star Scriptonite, with the other two to be unveiled this month.
