Label Update: Shock Records

Former Editor

In January this year Shock Record’s most recent General Manager Craig May departed to relocate to the UK, ending his 11-month tenure with the label. This week the nation’s largest independent announced two new additions to its team.

Georgina Thompson steps in as National Publicity and Promotions Manager following the departure of Shock’s Head of Promotions Belinda Fitzsimmons in April.

Thompson was previously National Senior Publicist at Roadshow Films.

“With over 11 years experience in the entertainment industry, Georgina brings a refreshing approach to all things PR/Promo,” Shock’s Label Director Mick Tarbuk told TMN. “Georgina is highly regarded within the media circle and has a passion and drive for all things entertainment, especially music.”

Tarbuk also announced the addition of Paige X. Cho as Label Manager, following Jacqui Wilson’s recent departure. Cho, who moonlights as a writer, photographer and member of indie-rock band Darts, has kicked off proceedings with the album campaigns for Lee Corey Oswald, who will release Regards on August 8, Aviator and original KISS guitarist Ace Frehley, who releases his first solo LP Space Invader on August 22.

The two appointments are the first following a major restructure in July 2013, where both Fitzsimmons and Wilson joined the team from Mushroom and Wunderkind, respectively.

Tarbuk told TMN that on June 2, he stepped up from his position as Label Manager into the Label Director role, taking over Craig May’s duties.

Shock currently looks after more than 20 local and international labels, has 24 LP releases slated for next month alone and is sending local signings Mind Over Matter and Caulfield as well as US band Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings on tour in the next two months.

Shock’s core team is:

Mick Tarbuk – Label Director (over 2 years with the Shock Records)
Georgina Thompson – National Publicity and Promotions Manager
Paige X. Cho – Label Manger
Karen Edwards – Digital and Licensing Manager (over 10 years with Shock Records)
Francine Toscano – Digital and Licensing Coordinator (over 2 years with Shock Records)
