Kylie duets with Iggy, Dannii and, er, Sinatra on festive album

Kylie Minogue’s upcoming festive album Kylie Christmas features duets with Iggy Pop, Dannii Minogue, James Corden and, er, Frank Sinatra.

The album is released in Australia through Festival/ Warner on November 13.

The songs are a mixture of original and classic songs. Iggy Pop joins in for a version of new wave US band The Waitresses’ 80s Christmas Wrapping, initially emerging on Ze Records’ A Christmas Record. Its writer Chris Butler explains it’s actually about hating the festive season and having to cope with all its madness!

James Corden is on Yazoo’s Only You, an ‘80s hit for the British act. It was a bigger chart success for the a Capella rendition by The Flying Pickets, a Christmas #1 in1983. Enrique Iglesias’ Spanish version topped the US charts.

A posthumous duet with Frank Sinatra is on Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, written in 1934 and done by Sinatra in 1948. Interestingly, a duet by Sinatra and Cyndi Lauper of the song was issued in 1992 (six years before his death) for a compilation A Very Special Christmas 2 to raise money for the Special Olympics.

A team-up with Dannii, on the new song 100 Degrees, and set to be a club hit, appears on the deluxe version.

Three brand new songs feature on the main album, White December, Christmas Isn’t Christmas ‘Til You Get Here and Every Day’s Like Christmas. Another threeare on the deluxe edition – Oh Santa, 100 Degrees and Cried Out Christmas.

A DVD featuring six tracks includes footage of Minogue in the studio.

Most of the album was produced by the singer’s long standing music director Steve Anderson, the one time Scratch Acid and Brothers in Rhythm member who began working with her in 1995.

White December and Cried Out Christmas were helmed by Matt Prime who has written hits for Sam Smith, Jake Bugg, Olly Murs and The Vamps.

Stargate, the highly successful Norwegian production and songwriting team best known for their work with Rhianna, handled Everyday’s Like Christmas.

Minogue also plays a Christmas show at London’s Royal Albert Hall on December 11 – her first headliner at the prestigious venue.

In the meantime, the singer has been filming with actor Vinnie Jones for new Walt Disney production of Galavant. The 47-year-old met her current boyfriend, British actor Joshua Sasse, who is 20 years her junior, on the set.
