Kim Dotcom launches new music service

Forget Beats Music, today marks the soft launch of Kim Dotcom’s Baboom, the Internet mogul’s new music service, which he claims is a cross between Spotify and iTunes.

Not one to shy away from a publicity opportunity, Dotcom has used the occasion to debut his ’artist page’ which both showcases the service itself, and Dotcom’s debut record Good Times – which was listened to over 74,000 times within the first hour of being on Baboom, according to Dotcom. The service will launch fully in late 2014, after a number of false starts.

An extensive advertising campaign, which will see advertisements for the service sprayed across the back of one hundred buses in New Zealand, certainly seems like an interesting* way to launch the product into the marketplace. Knowing Dotcom’s penchant for publicity , this will no doubt be the most traditional promotional tool he adopts for the launch.

*Oddly enough, when signing up for the service’s mailing list, the postal address given is “Porto, Porto 4100, Portugal”
