Kendrick to knock Ed off the top of the ARIA Albums chart this weekend

Sorry Ed, it’s over. Put your acoustic guitar back in the travel case adorned with stickers from all the countries you’ve dominated, go back to your village mansion, make a lovely cup of lukewarm tea, and start working on the next album. Kendrick Lamar’s latest album Damn looks almost certain to take over the #1 spot of the ARIA Albums chart, ending a six-week run which also saw Ed completely destroy the singles chart and all it used to be.

The Top 5 is in for a shake-up this weekend, with two other debuts fairly likely to enter the high reaches: Mark Vincent’s absolute banger A Tribute To Mario Lanza and John Mayer — or Whispering Jack as I call him, given his objection to singing above a whisper — and his album-which-is-actually-two-EPs-slammed-together The Search For Everything.

Last week’s chart also saw three albums debut in the Top 5; all three will drop significantly this week. Adele’s 25 is likely to hop back into the Top 5 this week, along with Ed and the aforementioned debuts.

Albums likely to debut in the Top 20 this week are The Fate Of The Furious: The Album (really though?) and Spit Syndicate’s One Good Shirt Had Us All Fly. The rest is all fairly uneventful – but that’s okay, isn’t it?
