Kedus selected as Apple Music’s latest Up Next artist

Apple Music has announced emerging R&B talent Kedus as its Up Next artist, the latest in the streaming platform’s agenda to unearth and showcase rising talent from around the country.

Kedus, who released his soulful debut single ‘Sunset Dream’ earlier this month, first discovered his passion for writing at the age of 11, which led to him building his own home studio as a 15-year-old to further hone his craft.

Over the past five years, the Brisbane-based artist has made music away from the limelight, producing and engineering five independent mixtapes and releasing an EP on his SoundCloud.

‘Sunset Dream’ marks the 20-year-old’s first single under dB Music/ Warner Music Australia, with Kedus flexing his melodic vocal flow over the top of an atmospheric, guitar-based instrumental courtesy of producer Aywy.

Kedus said the writing process behind ‘Sunset Dream’ was an “exciting and dreamy feeling”.

“I harnessed this mood and recorded a freestyle that ended up being the pre-chorus and from there the rest of the track was easier to create,” he said.

“I think that’s why the song brings the same mood.”

As the streaming service’s latest local Up Next artist under the spotlight, Kedus will be featured across Apple Music’s Australian Up Next playlist.

The curated playlist comprises of tracks from new and emerging artists, with Apple Music’s editors hand-picking each act to expose them to broader international audiences.

Previous acts to be featured on Apple Music’s global Up Next roster include 6lack, Daniel Caesar, H.E.R., Greta Van Fleet, Khalid, Amy Shark, Billie Eilish, Bad Bunny, Juice WLRD, Dean Lewis, Pink Sweat$, Koffee, Megan Thee Stallion, Burna Boy, Ingrid Andress, BENEE, Arlo Parks and Peach PRC, with Budjerah recently being spotlighted on the Australian roster in March.
