Joy 94.9 receives huge boost from iTunes feature

Melbourne-based LGBTI station JOY 94.9 is the first Australian community broadcaster to be selected to join the Apple iTunes Featured Podcast Provider program.

This will allow JOY to highlight content on the iTunes Store podcast home page, as well as providing quick access to the latest JOY content on the Australia and New Zealand iTunes Store. This should provide a massive boost in listenership for the community broadcaster, as download numbers for podcasts featured by Apple tend to skyrocket.

The station’s online development manager Avi Miller said this not only recognised how unique the station’s content was, but allowed it to extend its reach globally.

iTunes describe its Featured Podcast program as targeting broadcasters who “are breaking new ground, have new or unusual content, or just capture our interest.”
