Indica Australia signs Sydney singer-songwriter Jordan Kenny

Indica Australia has signed inner-western Sydney singer-songwriter, Jordan Kenny.

Indica Australia is a sub-label of Indica Records in Montreal, Canada, which was founded by Franz Schuller of ‘world punk’ outfit GrimSkunk in 1997.

Through the years it has released acts from Canada and France as well Australia’s John Butler Trio, Kim Churchill, The Cat Empire and Hein Cooper.

The Australian office was set up by Source Music’s Rob Scott, initially to issue records by Canadian band Half Moon Run.

Scott noted the talent of his new signing.

“Jordan Kenny’s innate talent and his urge to perform and communicate is everything that we could hope for in working with an artist at Indica Australia,” he said.

“We are so pleased and excited to welcome Jordan to the label and to have the backing of Interface Music (Studios 301) who are producing each quality master of his.”

Kenny is managed by agent and venue operator Geoff Trio, who built him up as a magnetic live performer around Sydney and at festivals while he self-released his debut EP Rainbows In My Clothes in 2018.

He performed two of his songs in Tasmania, accompanied by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, to add a shade of the ethereal to his music, which is described as “a dreamy, psychedelic sound that intertwines the influences of his parents’ record collection – The Beatles, Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan – and his own poetry and artistry as a guitarist”.

Kenny  is months away from graduating from the Sydney Conservatorium of Music, while preparing for an EP release in mid-2021.

The singer songwriter explained his journey to date.

“After playing many a show in the Sutherland Shire where I grew up, I became quite familiar with Geoff Trio, who gave me the opportunity to perform at his venue The Brass Monkey in Cronulla.

“After sharing some demos and plans for an EP, Geoff organised sessions for me at Studios 301 to record and release the EP with Indica Australia.

“I am thrilled to be working with the Indica team on this project and can foresee my creativity flourishing with their support.”

Out on Friday April 23 as a lead single from the EP is ‘(I) Blew The Sun Away’ which Kenny said “symbolically encapsulates the summit of self-loss and the nomadic adventure of self-attainment through its awakening yet dreamlike impression, ancient vision and poetic perplexity”.
