Jimmy Barnes joins Kathy McCabe for ‘Story Time’ podcast
Jimmy Barnes has launched a podcast to coincide with the release of his third memoir Killing Time: Short Stories From The Long Road Home.
Joined by music journalist and host Kathy McCabe, Barnes digs deeper behind some of his best stories, telling a stack of compelling yarns for listeners on Story Time With Jimmy Barnes.
He’s joined by some special guests including “Sneaky” Pete McFee, The Living End frontman Chris Cheney, champion golfer Peter Lonard, award-winning author Debra Oswald, his wife Jane and daughter Mahalia and fellow Glaswegian immigrant and MasterChef judge Jock Zonfrillo.
Barnes said that doing a podcast during lockdown felt natural due to the way we currently connect with one another.
“I’ve done a few things on radio, I hosted a show on Triple M, but the podcast thing is a great idea because we’ve all become used to connecting with each other on these different platforms during the whole COVID lockdown thing,” he said.
“I had my birthday party on Zoom this year, back in April, and we rang restaurants around the country and sent the same food and wine to everybody and partied together online.
“I like the idea of doing this because the interactions with my mates, whether they’re musicians or chefs or writers, is a lot of fun.”
Over the course of the episodes, Barnes chats with his guests and McCabe about what drives him and what he does while he’s not writing songs or books.
“People see me gardening and think ‘Oh really? And you’re gardening in those slippers?’ People just laugh. If you’d said to me 20 years ago that I’d be doing gardening, I would have gone ‘F … off, not going to happen,’” he added.
“I really don’t enjoy it that much but I love the outcome, I love to walk out there and see those beautiful things. I just help it along now and I know how to harvest and arrange it and make it look good so I get kudos from Jane.
“I would never have thought I would get anything from gardening or even cooking.”
Story Time With Jimmy Barnes goes live this Saturday, September 12.
