Jenny Morris elected APRA’s first new Chair in 20 years

Singer Jenny Morris was elected the first new Chair of the Australasian Performing Right Association (APRA) in 20 years.

This followed the resignation of composer Mike Perjanik, who held the post for an extensive 20 years. Perjanik agreed to remain on the APRA board as a Non-Executive Director. Morris has been on the APRA board as Australian Writer-Director. Mushroom Music Managing Director Ian James was returned as Deputy Chair.

At the APRA annual general meeting, held at the association’s Sydney offices yesterday, Morris and Don McGlashan were returned to the board as Writer-Directors, along with Publisher Directors Bob Aird (Universal Music Publishing) and Matthew Capper (Warner/Chappell Music Australia).

In addition, Mushroom’s Ian James was returned as Chair, and Matthew Donlevy, Managing Director of Peermusic, as Deputy Chair for partner association AMCOS (The Australasian Mechanical Copyright Owners Society).

The AMCOS AGM, also held the same day, saw the three vacancies filled by the two returning Directors, David Albert (Alberts) and Philip Walker (Origin Music Publishing), together with Simon Moor (Kobalt Music Publishing) who was elected to the board as AMCOS’ newest Director.
