INXS appoint producer Giles Martin to helm future projects

On the threshold of a hive of activity, INXS and their record label Petrol Records appointed globally renowned Grammy-winning music producer, composer and arranger, Giles Martin, as their executive music director for audio components of across a range of future projects.

These include the long-awaited documentary of the “untold story” of INXS, the theatre musical, and a remixed and expanded re-release of their classic albums through Universal Music Group.

Martin, son and collaborator of legendary British producer Sir George Martin, first met INXS in 1994.

He was working on The Great Music Experience, a spectacular concert starring Japanese and international musicians staged at the eighth-century Buddhist temple of Tōdai-ji, in Nara, Japan.

They struck up a friendship, and Martin worked on INXS’s Greatest Hits set and subsequent projects.

The most recent of these was mixing the sox-million selling Kick album in Dolby Atmos with Sam Okell at Abbey Road Studios for its 30th anniversary.

Martin commented: “Having worked across several phenomenal INXS releases over the years, I am thrilled to be extending our musical relationship.

“INXS are one of the most important rock bands in history, I am honoured to be collaborating with them again and look forward to contributing to the spectacular experiences the band are creating for their fans.”

Martin won a Grammy for his 2006 collaboration with Sir George on the interesting smash-up oundtrack for the highly successful Love, the Beatles-Cirque du Soleil show that opened in Las Vegas.

He’s worked in film, TV, theatre and is also a creative consultant for global audio giant, SONOS.

According to Petrol, INXS have sold 50 million records worldwide.

Since reuniting with them some years ago, Murphy has worked to lift the value and profile of the band’s catalogue through various projects and brand associations.

INXS’s popularity has transcended generations, with 9.8 million monthly streams and over 3 million monthly listeners on Spotify.
