International chart moves: Tones, Troye, Kylie and Cave climb

Tones And I is on the brink of another U.K. Top 40 hit.

The one-time-busker turned global star blows into the top tier of the midweek U.K. chart with ‘Fly Away,’ which lifts 42-37, a new peak.

Released in November 2020, ‘Fly Away’ (Parlophone) takes off after going viral on TikTok where it been used almost 100,000 times to soundtrack upbeat clips, the Official Charts Company reports.

Tones (real name Toni Watson) had a U.K. smash for the books with ‘Dance Monkey,’ which led the Official U.K. Singles Chart in 2019 for 11 weeks, a record for a female solo artist.

‘Dance Monkey’ continues to shuffle on the weekly chart, where it currently sits at No. 98.

Tones has impacted the survey with three titles. The third was ‘Dance Monkey’ follow-up ‘Never Seen the Rain,’ peaking at No. 99 in early 2020.

‘Fly Away’ will appear on Tones’ eagerly anticipated full-length debut album Welcome To The Madhouse, due out July 16.

The Official U.K. Singles Chart is published late Friday, local time.

Tones isn’t the only Australian act making moves on international sales charts.

Nick Cave and his longtime Bad Seed brother Warren Ellis have the week’s best-selling wax in the U.K. with Carnage (Goliath Entertainment), their first entire album of songs as a duo.

Carnage is No. 1 on the Official Vinyl Albums Chart Top 40 and No. 3 on the all-formats Official U.K. Albums Chart.

Going west, Troye Sivan has another Billboard chart topper with ‘You,’ his collaboration with Regard and Tate McRae.

‘You’ tops Billboard’s Hot Dance/Electronic Songs chart (dated June 26) (via Ministry of Sound/Epic) the first leader for all three acts, the trade title reports. It’s just the third song to top the chart this year.

The song also continues its reign over the Dance/Mix Show Airplay chart for a seventh week, a streak no other single can match this year.

Meanwhile, Kylie Minogue makes a sparkly appearance on the Dance/Electronic Digital Song Sales, with her cover of Lady Gaga’s ‘Marry the Night’ (Darenote/Interscope).

The track, which appears on the 10th anniversary edition of Gaga’s Born This Way, debuts at No. 3 on the chart, tying Kylie’s best position on the chart, with ‘Say Something’ last August.
