Instagram collaborates with Genius to launch Lyric Reels
Four months after Instagram introduced its Reels feature in Australia, which allows users to make and upload 15-second videos featuring music and other special effects, the platform has introduced Lyric Reels.
It’s a team-up with lyrics website Genius, which claims to be the world’s largest collection of song lyrics and music knowledge. Users visit the site to view track lyrics and share their analyses.
According to a statement from Genius, “Lyric Reels offer a new approach to music storytelling: short (30 seconds), entertaining, and engaging videos that share the stories behind the songs, expressed through the artists’ own words and creativity.”
The new feature launches with Megan Thee Stallion’s erotic song ‘Body’, released last month as the third single from her debut album Good News. The hip hop star wrote the song during COVID-19 quarantine and was inspired by her figure, which she says is the envy of other women and the object of lust by men.
Megan raps, “I’m like walking around the living room, freestyling, and appreciating my quarantine body ’cause I feel like I got a little fluffy and thick, and I was like, ‘Baby I still look good’.”
Megan’s Lyric Reels clip is available to view on the Genius page for ‘Body’. Upcoming acts on Lyric Reels include 24kGoldn and Tate McRae.
