Matthew Evans appointed as CEO of Village Sounds Group
Promoter Jessica Ducrou appointed Matthew Evans as CEO of the Village Sounds Group of companies. Evans was most recently CFO of Australasia for EMI Music. He will oversee Village Sounds Agency, Secret Sounds Touring, Secret Sounds Connect, the festivals Splendour in the Grass, Homebake and Falls and North Byron Parklands, the new purpose-built home of Splendour and Falls Byron Bay.
Ducrou told TMN: “The Village Sounds Group has expanded rapidly in recent years. With North Byron Parklands having received a 5 year trial of events from the Department of Planning only last year, Splendour settling into this new venue, and last year’s investment in The Falls Festival we have plenty to do. The organic growth of these shows and venue that is core to our current strategy.” As to moving into new areas, she replied, “We’d like to think we are constantly assessing opportunities and testing ideas. While we wouldn’t want to speculate here what future ventures could happen it is something that is always on our radar…”
Evans said in a statement, “I have long admired the Village Sounds Group of companies and festivals so am thrilled to take this role, working with Jess and her amazing teams. The management of Paul Piticco’s interests in the relevant companies above remains unaffected by these changes within the Village Sounds Group.
Angus O’Loughlin new co-host of Take 40
Angus O’Loughlin is new co-host of Today Network’s chart show Take 40 with Jackie O. Currently hosting Today’s The Bump, he said: “When I was growing up I used to have my Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles radio tuned only to the station where I could listen to Take 40. I still pinch myself sitting across from Jackie O knowing I’m broadcasting on the show I grew up listening to.” Produced by MCM Media with Southern Cross Austereo, Take 40 broadcasts Saturdays 3pm-7pm to an audience of almost one million.
Andy Mathers new GM in Geelong
Andy Mathers takes over as General Manager of Grant Broadcasters’ K-Rock and Bay-FM in Geelong on September 30. He replaces Dean Anglin who left last month. Mathers worked there as promotions manager before joining dmg Radio as sales director and serving as GM of Star 104.5 NSW Central Coast. He was most recently at S & J Media Group in Melbourne.
New head for Sennheiser Australia
Bjørn Rennemo Henriksen, Denmark-based sales and marketing director for Nordic and Baltic countries for German sound company Sennheiser, will take over as managing director of its Australia and New Zealand operations. Sennheiser bought Syntec Australia this month and has rebranded it as Sennheiser Australia. The Syntec management team remains in place.
David Emery joins Kobalt Label Services
Beggars Group head of marketing David Emery has joined Kobalt Label Services as its marketing director. After working with some of his fave bands at Beggars like Radiohead, White Stripes and Sonic Youth, he said, “You can’t rest on your laurels forever, though.” Emery is also a music photographer of note with his work appearing in British magazines.
Two changes at SEA FM/Heart FM Hobart
Southern Cross Austereo shifted two on-air talent from SEA FM/Heart FM Hobart. Lucy Morling is at Triple M Melbourne. Hayden Naughton will from Sept 11 do mornings at NX FM Newcastle and 2Day Sydney weekends.
Carlie Wacker moves on air
Sea FM/Mix FM Sunshine Coast’s events manager and promotions coordinator Carlie Wacker now co-hosts breakfast at Mix with Mark Darin.
Three new members for Geelong Performing Arts Centre Trust
Victoria’s Minister for the Arts Heidi Victoria announced the new chairman of the Geelong Performing Arts Centre Trust as corporate and commercial lawyer Bob Bett. He also served on the board of the Geelong Art Gallery and the Public Galleries Association of Victoria. New members to the Trust are Robert Costa, chairman of private investment firm Costa Asset Management, and arts and entertainment management consultant Geoff Street.
