Hot 100 Fast Facts: August 17
An old pop favourite has registered a strong debut on the latest issue of TMN’s Hot 100, while ‘Despacito’ emphatically crashes out of the Top 10.
After servicing her highly anticipated new single to radio last week, P!NK’s ‘What About Us’ has been met with a warm reception from commercial. It scored a Hot 100 debut at #9 this week, the highest first-week position on the chart since Harry Styles’arrival at #3 in April.
The next best debut comes from EDM juggernaut Avicii with ‘Without You’ ft. Sandro Cavazza entering the chart at #54.Both Avicii and P!NK tussled for thetop position on this week’s Most Added chart, buta notable discrepancy exists between their Hot 100 debuts.
Turning our attention to the top, Liam Payne notches his fifth unbroken week in charge of the Hot 100. ‘Strip That Down’ ft. Quavo has proven to be more stubborn at the top than originally expected, says TMN Charts Editor Daniel Respall.
“Both Niall and DJ Khaled have both spent time at #1 on the Hot 100 this year, so it’s surprising that Liam has been able to ward off two of radio’s biggest stars of 2017 for this long.
Radio appears to be shifting gears after it seemed ‘Despacito’ could do no wrong at commercial. The track finds itself down at #19 this week following an epic slide that has seen the Bieber-featuring remixdrop 15 places in 3 weeks after holding down #1 for four consecutive weeks.
While a debut at #34 followed by a sprint to #9 looked like positive signs for Australian singer-songwriter Vance Joy, ‘Lay It On Me’ has been receding slowly ever since. It now looks unlikely that the track will reach the same stature as ‘Riptide’ or ‘Fire And The Flood’.
