Sync Watch: Gordi lends new single ‘Volcanic’ to Home & Away promo

Australian singer-songwriter Sophie Payten, known professionally as Gordi, has landed a coveted sync on the latest Home & Away promo. And just in the nick of time.

Seven has chosen her latest release ‘Volcanic’ to set the scene for an emotionally-charged 60-second spot that also features Cameron Daddo.

The single is lifted from her forthcoming Our Two Skins, out June 26, which was tracked at her family farm in Canowindra, NSW with the production team behind Bon Iver.

As the Aussie soap returned to production last month after a nine-week hiatus, the emotive promo beautifully scores the show’s storyline which includes a terminal illness.

Gordi wrote the song during a trip to Stockholm in 2018 after a call from her parents urging the 27-year-old to share “the truth of her sexuality” with her grandmother.

“It speaks to a rush of anxiety – about why, about what is real and what is not, about the drama of it, about the vortex of it,” she said.

“The tempo never changes but the piano solo starts at half-time and rushes until it is double the speed, though the beat never changes. And then suddenly; it’s over.”

Payten is published by Mushroom Music Publishing and signed to Liberation Records in Australia.
