Here’s why you need to change your Twitter password right now

Twitter is currently urging its users to change their passwords after uncovering a glitch that exposed log-in details within the company’s internal computer system.

The glitch has since been fixed and it was discovered that no passwords were stolen or misused, however, the social network is advising users to change their passwords “out of an abundance of caution”.

According to a blog post made by Twitter, the number of passwords effected was “substantial” and they were exposed for “several months”. The blog post also explains the process in which the company goes through to create passwords, called ‘hashing’ – it’s explained that due to the bug, “passwords were written to an internal log before completing the hashing process.”

You can read the entire blog post here, which also provides tips on account security. “We are very sorry this happened,” Twitter said.
