Gold Coast Songhubs kicks off today (August 29) and stages until September 1 in the run-up to BIGSOUND Brisbane.

Songwriters and producers come from Berlin, Nashville and Broadway as well as all around Australia.

Aside from BIGSOUND, APRA AMCOS and City of Gold Coast host the intensive songwriting residency in partnership with Griffith University-Queensland Conservatorium and Kobalt Music Publishing.

The studio sessions will bring together Tony-nominated Eddie Perfect, Kate Miller-Heidke, and international hitmaker Ingrid Andress (Charlie XCX, Alicia Keys), BIGSOUND artists Jaguar Jonze and Mickey Kojack, and Gold Coast talent Brad Hosking, San Mei, Ruka Hanlon and Ella Fence.

Helming the Gold Coast SongHubs is Berlin-based songwriter and producer Tobias Kuhn.

He has worked with Milky Chance, Aurora and Lewis Capaldi.

Each day he will assign a different group of three to write, produce and record a song by the close of business.

“I am really looking forward for this group of people to get together,” he said.

“In the studio, we’ll have artists, producers and writers from many different musical directions collaborating – the potential is all there for some amazing songs to be created in a really supportive setting.”

The involvement of the City of Gold Coast stems from its recently released Music Action Plan 2021.

It aims to support the careers of local acts and music industry in innovative ways, making the Gold Coast a true music city.

Mayor Tom Tate said, “Hosting SongHubs is a significant coup for the Gold Coast, introducing high calibre creative talent from around the world to our beautiful city.

“The City’s Music Action Plan 2021 has declared the Gold Coast open for business and I welcome this program as just one of the many initiatives the music industry can expect to see delivered under the plan.

“I am a big supporter of the city’s home grown talent and congratulate everyone on their selection for the program.”

Since SongHubs launched in 2013, over $2 million in performance royalties for its collaborations has been earned.

It has produced commercial releases for Briggs, Troye Sivan, Morgan Evans, Dean Lewis, Client Liaison, Peking Duk, Tkay Maidza, Ainslie Wills, The Chainsmokers, Guy Sebastian and Ecca Vandal.
