Global EDM festival Sensation heading to Sydney

The Dutch-born global EDM festival Sensation will debut in Sydney on Saturday November 25, promoter Dance Nation Australia announced at an event in Sydney last night.

It will be staged at Olympic Park, which has a capacity of 45,000 to 50,000.

Dance Nation’s Simon Lovell told TMN, “We’re expecting 40,000. If we do reach that number, Sensation will be the largest EDM festival in Australia this year.”

The lineup will be unveiled on June 6. The theatrical production is rumoured to be north of $1 million.

The unique selling point of Sensation, according to Lovell, is “the experience and the white dress code. It really is something to see.”

Sensation comes on the heels of overseas EDM brands Ultraand Stormannouncing their arrivals here – a reflection, Lovell suggests, of the enthusiasm that Australian EDM fans have for festivals, and their willingness to travel abroad to get their festival fix.

Sensation began in 2000 as a one-off event in the Amsterdam Arena by ID&T.

It has now toured 34 countries across 5 continents and welcomed over two million visitors worldwide.

Its bills have included Eric Prydz, Alesso, Armin Van Buuren, Laidback Luke, Zedd, Sebastian Ingrosso, Tiesto and Mark Knight.

The Sensation experience of visuals, theatrics and dance code has won it awards for ’Best Event of the Year’ in countries such as the Netherlands, Germany, Brazil, and Denmark.

A one-off version in Melbourne on New Years Eve 2008 at Telstra Dome drew 38,380 – with 40% coming from Sydney.
