Flume, Tame Impala, Cub Sport and more to feature on first US release of Like A Version
triple j’s popular compilation series Like A Version will be released in the US for the first time next month.
North America will receive the 21-track “best of” Like A Version launch via MGM on September 22, through the company’s relationship with ABC Music.
The 21-song release will feature cover songs by prominent local and international artists. ARIA Award winner Flume will cover Ghost Town DJs’ ‘My Boo’, Mark Ronson will put his own spin on Queens Of The Stone Age’s ‘I Sat By The Ocean’, while the John Butler Trio will cover ‘Happy’ by Pharrell Williams.
On top of the online attention that Like A Version has already generated,Richard Kingsmill, triple j’sGroup Music Director, seesthe release as an opportunity to raise further awareness around local acts.
“Like A Version has been building year-on-year for us here in Australia, but also internationally it’s made plenty of noise of late,” Kingsmill told TMN. “The online attention that international acts have gotten from appearing on the segment has been really noticeable. We have big acts now requesting to appear on Like A Version while they’re in Australia.
“Releasing Like A Version in the US will not just continue to raise the profile of the segment, but also hopefully raise awareness of the great Australian acts that have featured over the years and will into the future.”
Artists and their teams are being asked to put their support behind the release in the US via conversations with local digital service providers and on social media.
The 12th version in the Like A Version series, the most recent, debuted at #1 on the ARIA Albums Chart in October last year. It became the fourth consecutive release in the Like A Version series to debut at the top of the chart.
Trumping mainstream releases from Green Day (#2) and Norah Jones (#4) that same week, Version 12 features 39 tracks from Tame Impala covering Kylie Minogue, Sarah Blasko covering David Bowie, Alpine covering Ben Lee and The Rubens covering Kendrick Lamar.
