Finalists announced for 2016 Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition
Client Liaison, Emma Louise (pictured), Gordi, and King Social are among multiple nominees for this year’s Vanda & Young Songwriting Competition.
In celebration of APRA AMCOS’ 90th year, 90 songs have made the shortlist of diverse songwriters all up for $50,000 courtesy of ARPA AMCOS and Alberts.
Seven artists including Client Liaison, Emma Louise, Gordi, Katrina Burgoyne, King Social, Louis Schoorl and Oh Pep, each have two songs nominated for the prize.
Other notable names include Sampa The Great, Josh Pyke, Jarryd James, Middle Kids and recent triple j Unearthed High winner Gretta Ray.
Supported by APRA AMCOS and Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Australia (NRMTA), the prestigious prize will be awarded on the October 27.
The second prize winner will receive $10,000 from AMPAL (Australasian Music Publishers Association) and third prize is $5,000 courtesy of AEG Ogden, with all winners taking home a microphone set from Shure.
The judging panel narrowed the field from 3,934 songs submitted by 2,412 applicants from 20 different countries. The eldest applicant was 82-years-old, with the youngest being only 11-years-old.
Entry fee for the competition was $50 per submission with all money raised going to Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapy Australia. The competition raised a total of $200,000 including donations.
