BOMBINO, MAD PROFESSOR, JAH9, GORDI AMONG FIRST ACTS FOR MULLUM

Among the first artist lineup for the 11th instalment of Mullum Music Festival (November 15—18, Mullumbimby, NSW) are Nigerian desert blues guitar shredder, Bombino, Afro-Caribbean dub maestro Mad Professor, Jamaican jazz-on-dub soulstress Jah9, and Australian folk/electronica singer-songwriter Gordi.

Also announced were Japan’s ministers of superheavy funk Osaka Monaurail, Jordie Lane, Irish electro-folk duo Saint Sister, New Guinea-born hip-hop neo-soul artist Kaiit, Mullum faves Hat Fitz & Cara and gospel blues Turner Brown Band.

86 more acts will be announced, says festival director Glenn Wright, who adds that the festival runs through the whole town.

The festival was recently named as a Flagship Event by Destination NSW and scored an official acknowledgement in NSW state parliament.

“A good festival inspires creativity and helps turn a group of people into a community,” says Wright.

“Mullumbimby now has a thriving arts and cultural community and we are very proud that over the last 11 years Mullum Music Festival has played a significant role in the town’s renaissance.”

CAIRNS VENUE SET FOR LATE 2018 OPENING

Cairns Regional Council has advised that, after a series of delays, the Cairns Performing Arts Centre (CPAC) will likely be opening in September.

The 940-seater was scheduled to open in August 2017, but delays were caused by the discovery of asbestos during the demolition of the site, and poor ground conditions caused by bad weather.

The budget, including an intensive rebuild at Munro Martin Parklands, has ballooned to $68.9 million.
