LIZOTTE’S NEWCASTLE SPREAD THE LOVE
Lizotte’s Newcastle was where 30 of the city’s business and music community shot a video to go with their new marriage equality and inclusivity track ‘Spread The Love’.
The idea of Out of the Square Media’s Marty Adnum, he managed to get some well-known faces in the shoot.
These included entertainment identities as Marty Worrall, Brian Lizotte, Dan Beazley, Kristy James and Kylie Jane along with a montage of photos of local businesses showing their support for the ‘Yes’ vote.

BOILER ROOM TV CIMBS BACK SUGAR MOUNTAIN
Boiler Room TV, which broadcasts dozens of curated gigs and parties, will be spreading the message of Melbourne’s Sugar Mountain on Saturday, January 20 to tens of thousands across the globe.

SYDNEY CITY LIMITS MAKES EXTRAVAGANT BOW
Having proved itself as a winner with Auckland City Limits which was the first in the region to recreate the Austin City Limits format, the whole package heads to Sydney on February 24
Live Nation, a presenting partner in the NZ edition, is also involved with the Sydney love-in, as is Austin’s C3 Presents and Live Nation asset Secret Sounds which runs Splendour and Falls.
So we get some major names treading the boards at Centennial Park including Justice, Beck, Vance Joy, Phoenix, Grace Jones, The Libertines, Tash Sultana, The Avalanches, Gang of Youths, Alex Lahey and Dune Rat.

The second Bluesfest Byron announce has Seal, Michael Franti & Spearhead, Jackson Browne, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit, Gomez, Rag’n’Bone Man, The Original Blues Brothers Band, Jimmy Cliff, The Wailers, Benjamin Booker, Hurray for the Riff Raff, Canned Heat, Walter Trout, André Cymone and The Teskey Brothers.
DAY ON THE GREEN AIMS FOR LARGER MT. DUNEED SPACE
Roundhouse Entertainment, which operates the A Day On The Green series is expanding its Mt Duneed Estate in Geelong, Victoria.
It has applied to increase its capacity by 2000 to 20,000, expand its operating hours by an hour to midnight, and offering camping capped to 500 vehicles.
Next year ADOTG hosts Robbie Williams as well as the Almighty Monster bill with The Living End, Spiderbait, Veruca Salt, The Lemonheads, Tumbleweed and The Fauves.
SECOND ROUND FOR MOUNTAIN MEETS SEA
The inaugural Mountain Meets Sea (Nov 18, UOW Gardens., Wollongong) has swelled its bill with Badrapper, Nina Las Vegas, Yahtzel, Perth’s Elk Road and Brisbane rapper Carmouflage Rose.
The event is a collab between SWRV, FRNDS and Yours & Owls.
CITY OF SYDNEY GETTING NIGHT TIME PANEL
In more moves to put a firecracker up its night time economy, City of Sydney has approved the setting up of the Creative City and Nightlife Advisory Panel.
The composition of the panel is not known yet but “All will be champions of the City’s cultural life and night-life,” Lord Mayor Clover Moore assures us.
The panel will discuss the issues brought up in the City’s An Open and Creative Sydney discussion paper, which would allow businesses to remain open until 10pm seven days a week.
MORE UNEARTHLY SHOWS UNVEILED
The Garden of Unearthly Delights (Feb 15 – Mar 18 Rundle Park, Adelaide) announced more shows targeting early sales.
These include UK hit stage comedy Fleabag, comedian Randy (Sammy J & Randy)’s Anti-Crisis show, The Fringe Wives Club’s Glittery Clittery, Monski Mouse’s Baby Disco and Best of the Edinburgh Fest which has handpicked the funniest lineup direct from the famous Edinburgh Fringe.
Finally, comic James Veitch’s Dot Con looks at the world of scammers, from Nigerian princes to unclaimed bonds.
GRIZZLY BEAR PROWLS PANAMA
Grizzly Bear headlines the fifth installment of Queensland’s A Festival Called Panama (March 9, 10, 11). The boutique festival is capped at 1500 tickets.
The first artist announcement also has Thundercat, Sampa the Great, Perfume Genius, Lee Fields & The Expressions, Alice Ivy, GI, Haiku Hands, Ghosting Presents Reimagining, Miyazaki, Clea and Slow Dancer.
The next announcement drops Nov 21.
WARNING OVER NT LIQUOR CHANGE
While TMN has already reported that the Northern Territory’s shake-up of its liquor laws has venues worried over a proposed expansion of lockouts and introduction of expensive ID scanners, other hospitality figures are concerned over the possible ban of the sale of drinks with over 5% alcohol after 11 pm.
Some spoke to NT News that it might stop people from going out at nights or cutting into revenue, and asking why all venues which serve alcohol responsibly should be penalised by the actions of the few/

LATER TRADING DURING COMMONWEALTH GAMES?
Both the Queensland Government and the Gold Coast council are considering the possibility of extending trading hours for nightclubs and bars in entertainment precincts should be allowed to trade past 3 am during the two weeks of the Commonwealth Gardens next April.
MULLUM LOOKS BACK WITH PHOTO EXHIBIT
Before the 10th Mullum Music kicks off (Nov 16—19, Mullumbimby, NSW North Coast), it’s teamed with The Rock and Roll Coffee Company Café to hold an exhibition of a decade of photos taken at the festival
The exhibit (Oct 24—Nov 27) features the works of seven local clickers Jeff Dawson, Evan Malcolm, Lyn McCarthy, Hamish McCormick, Anthony Moulay, Kirra Pendergast and Kurt Petersen.
“The reason I love shooting Mullum is because it is so full of joy! There is so much to see at each venue and the movement of people in between creates a street photographer’s dream,” says, Pendergast, who has been taking photos since she was 12 years old.
The Director of local website Common Ground, she also mentors young student photographers at Mullum Music each year, showing them the ropes of festival and street photography.
RIVERSIDE WOUND UP
The Queensland Supreme Court ordered that Sunshine Coast venue Riverside be put into liquidation. It was owned by Sunshine Coast Entertainment Group Pty Ltd and been on the market since April.
The Sunshine Plaza Maroochydore site has been unlucky for previous ventures including Factory: The Project (which closed suddenly in March 2015 when Raw Group Sunshine Plaza Pty Ltd, went into liquidation owing $425,000 to creditors), the Cow and Anchor in September 2013 after a year, and the traditional British venue Pig ’n’ Whistle.
REPUBLIC HOTEL FREEHOLD CHANGES HANDS
The freehold of Republic Hotel in Sydney’s Pitt Street – one of the late night music venues allowed extended trading hours earlier this year – has changed hands.
After 17 years, the Ryan family sold out to an international property fund but will lease it back as part of the deal.
INFAMOUS STAR HOTEL FOR SALE
Newcastle’s once infamous Star Hotel – made famous of course by the Cold Chisel foot tapper about the September 19, 1979 riot during local band Heroes’ set – is on the trading block.
Owner Chris Mills, who renovated the place three years ago and turned it into a sedate bar and restaurant, is selling it as a leasehold asset for the first time in 17 years.
WINNERS AT ALIA AWARDS
At the 2017 Australian Liquor Industry Awards (ALIA) in Sydney before 600 guests, rejuvenated live music venue The Lansdowne took Best Venue Renovation while Justin Hemmes’ Merivale took home the Hotel Group Operator of the Year trophy and Hotel of the Year went to The Newport.
TRIFFID ALBUM OF YEAR VOTING DEADLINE
Voting for Brisbane’s Triffid club’s Queensland Album of the Year ends on November 8.
Busby Marou (Postcards From The Shell House), Bernard Fanning (Brutal Dawn), Holy Holy (Paint), The Jungle Giants (Quiet Ferocity) and Sabrina Lawrie (Hush The Mountain) are in the running to take their place on the club’s wall of fame alongside The Go-Betweens, The Saints, Ball Park Music, Violent Soho and last year’s winner Halfway.
