Ed Sheeran ignites tour speculation with Melbourne light projections
Ed Sheeran has sparked rumours of an Australian tour after a string of projections were cast across several iconic Melbourne music venues overnight.
Featuring the symbolic butterfly from the cover of his recent Michael Gudinski tribute single ‘Visiting Hours’ and a message reading ‘MG Forever #1’, the projections were spotted on a number of venues that Sheeran has previously performed at, including Festival Hall, Rod Laver Arena, AAMI Park and Marvel Stadium.
Some fans have noted that the projection also made an appearance on the MCG, with many assuming it will be the next Melbourne venue Sheeran will perform at in the event of an upcoming Australian tour.
Sheeran flew to Australia and spent two weeks in quarantine to attend Gudinski’s funeral in March, and previously described ‘Visiting Hours’ as “one of the most important songs on = [Equals]“. The track also features backing vocals from longtime Mushroom artists Jimmy Barnes and Kylie Minogue.
Last month, Sheeran announced that his forthcoming record = (Equals) would be dedicated to Gudinski, with whom the UK singer-songwriter shared a close personal and professional rapport.
= will be released officially on Friday, October 28 via Warner Music Australia.
