Ebony Boadu Appointed A&R Manager at Mushroom Labels

Ex-Triple J presenter and floor-filling DJ Ebony Boadu makes the leap into indie-label land with Mushroom Labels, where she takes duties as A&R manager.

Announced Tuesday, Jan. 23, Boadu is based at Mushroom Group’s Sydney office and reports to Liberation managing director Damian Slevison.

Boadu arrives at Mushroom with a profile to rival many of the acts on its roster.

Previously, she co-hosted the triple j Breakfast programme for two years, and led the state-funded broadcaster’s Saturday night music show before that.

As a party DJ, Boadu has played the full deck of Australian festivals, including Splendour In The Grass, Falls Festival, Lost Paradise, and Listen Out, supported Stormz, Kaytranada and others, and embarked on headline tours of her own.

“We are really excited to have Ebony join the A&R team,” comment Mushroom Labels COO Chris Maund in a statement announcing Boadu’s appointment.

“Her experience at triple j and as a DJ has given her invaluable artist/industry relationships and very broad and diverse taste. She has infectious energy and is perfectly placed to aid our existing roster and uncover future stars.”

An electronic and hip-hop aficionado, Ebony initially turned-up the weekend on triple j’s Saturday night House Party before taking over Breakfast with Bryce Mills in 2021.

She completed her full-time brekky run December 2022.

“Ebony’s heart, passion and infectious energy has consistently translated through the mic,” read a statement announcing her departure from triple j, posted November 2022.

Together with Mills, the ABC noted at the time, she “delivered some spectacular content,” from locking in The Wiggles for their iconic, Hottest 100 topping Like A Version to interviews with Lizzo, Jack Harlow, The Kid LAROI, and Tame Impala and more.

“Ebony’s passion and obsession has always been music,” reads a statement from Mushroom, the Melbourne-based indie music powerhouse, “and she is excited to now be taking up an A&R role at Mushroom Labels to focus further on mentoring, curating and working behind the scenes to nurture the country’s next generation of stars.”

Considered the core of the Mushroom Group’s artist and label services division, Mushroom Labels is home to a raft of label imprints including Liberation Records, Ivy League, I OH YOU, Soothsayer, Bloodlines, Liberator Music and 100s + 1000s.
