Drake to tour Australia with Future Music Festival

Drake will tour Australia for the very first time next year as part of Future Music Festival’s just announced lineup.

Announced alongside seminal electronic group The Prodigy and Avicii, the globe’s 3^rd highest paid DJ – according to Forbes’ 2014 Cash Kings list – Drake is long overdue for an Australian jaunt.

The Canadian rapper’s most recent LP Nothing Was The Same debuted at #2 on the ARIA chart last year with its single Hold On, We’re Going Home peaking at #8. In April 2011, his Grammy-winning album Take Care entered the ARIA chart at #15 and the title track, featuring Rihanna, peaked at #9.

Future Music Festival Director Brett Robinson told TMN organisers had been gunning to get Drake on the 2015 lineup “for the best part of this year.”

“We’re pretty flattered that he chose the Future Music festival as the way he did [his debut Australian visit],” said Robinson. “[…] After we’d seen the success of Macklemore and Pharrell on the festival this year, we knew that there was a clear direction for us that we needed to embrace a lot of hip hop and R’n’B after that. We know that a lot of Australian audiences are responding to it really well when it’s presented in the right way.”

Joining the three polarising headliners on the ninth Future Music Festival is two-time Grammy winner Afrojack, ARIA Club chart topper Martin Garrix, who performed this year’s Future Music Festival, festival favourite Example, British drum ‘n’ bass duo Sigma, rapper 2 Chainz and rap rave duo Die Antwoord.
