Dot Dash marks first New Zealand signing with Soaked Oats

Dot Dash/Remote Control, which was set up to promote Australian acts, has made its first New Zealand signing.

Indie sludge-pop rockers Soaked Oats are from Dunedin.

Label co-owner Harvey Saward explains, “In the fine tradition of Mother Goose’s ‘Baked Beans’ song, Sharon O’Neil and the pavlova; it seemed only right for an Aussie label to claim another golden Kiwi as our own.

“Joking! Actually, we saw this band live and alongside the new recordings we believe these young chaps have amazing potential”.

Soaked Oats have released new single ‘Coming Up’ to follow up ‘Driftworld’ and ‘Shuggah Doom’ and have an EP Sludge Pop out on June 14 digitally and on delicious 10″ vinyl.

Lead singer/songwriter Oscar Mein explains the new single: “I had just written the first half of the lyrics as a poem.

“I was trying to personify a low morning in the immediate surroundings of a bedroom.

“(Band member) Henry (Francis) sent through a demo he had done titled ‘coming up from behind’, and I started playing around with applying the poem to the song while working within the title he had given it.”

The black and white video, directed by Jake Munro, features footage of their US tour including the 34 foot 1980’s RV they called home for the 10 week, 20,000-mile trek.

This month they head to the UK, with sets at The Great Escape in Brighton and later in London.

On the way back, they play three club shows in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne (June 26—29), which they follow up with dates in New Zealand in July.
