Diverse shortlist for 9th Australian Music Prize

The nine albums shortlisted for the 9th Coopers AMP were unveiled at the Shortlisted event, held on Sunday at the Sidney Myer Music Bowl in Melbourne.

As is often the case with the AMP, it is a musically diverse shortlist: the abrasive art-pop of Kirin J Callinan, the distortion-drenched dreamscapes of Melbourne’s Beaches, and the Beach Boys-lost-in-Manchester psychedelia of Jagwar Ma sit alongside Jen Cloher’s touching collection In Blood Memory, and Blue Mountains MC Dialectrix. The eleven-strong judging panel features a mix of musicians, journalists and music retailers, including Hoodoo Gurus’ Dave Faulkner, Renee Geyer, Tim Levinson (Urthboy), and Chris Johnston (The Age).

The winning album is announced on March 5, with its creator walking away with $30,000, courtesy of PPCA.
