Db.music/Warner Music Australia Signs Jean.

Genre-fusing artist Jean. has signed with db.music/Warner Music Australia, alongside releasing his new single ‘See Through’.

Mauritian-born and based in Western Sydney, Jean. pursued music from an early age, learning to play guitar and write songs in his early teens. His focus now is on creating his own sound with influences from a wide array of artists and genres.

Jean.’s new single sees the songwriter collaborate with Alabama rapper Clever, who’s previously worked with artists such as Post Malone, Justin Bieber, Chris Brown, and Juice WRLD. Jean. says he already had Clever in mind when writing the song’s hook.  “My friend Yaz showed me Clever’s music a couple of months prior and I thought his tone and melodies were incredibly unique,” he explains.

“Whilst over in America, I stayed with his manager however we never got a chance to meet each other. 12 months later we finally made contact after his manager showed him the track. He loved it and wanted to feature on it. He sent his verse and I wrote my verse after hearing his approach to the song. That’s how the song came about.”

A thoughtful songwriter, Jean. had visuals of “the moon, a forest, a storm and wolves” in his mind when creating ‘See Through’. The music reminded me of some kind of hunt, so I knew the lyrics had to match the epicness of the instrumental,” he says.

“For the video, I decided I wanted to put myself in the world that I had imagined when writing the hook and it turned out to be exactly how I imagined. Shoutout to Macsdona on the visuals, he killed it.”

‘See Through’ is Jean.’s first single of 2022, and is the first taste of his upcoming EP, set for release later this year. With previous releases boasting over 2.5 million streams and strong reviews on triple j Unearthed, hopes are high for the forthcoming record.

“As our partnership with DB Records goes from strength to strength, Jean brings a new dimension to that relationship,” Dan Rosen, President of Warner Music Australasia, says about the signing of the artist. “He’s a true talent, with an incredible voice and great songwriting. This first release is just the start of introducing him to Australia and the world.”
