David Bowie music now on TikTok
TikTok has announced the music catalogue of David Bowie will be available on TikTok from today, the day which would have been his 74th birthday.
The platform has launched an account in Bowie’s memory in partnership with Warner Music Group, Sony Music Entertainment and The David Bowie Estate. The channel will release iconic videos from his life and “work across over five decades of innovation and reinvention”.
In addition, on Sunday, January 10 The Starman Challenge (#TheStarman) will launch, to mark five years since Bowie’s passing. The challenge will use Bowie’s track ‘Starman’, and encourage TikTok users to recreate his iconic looks from across the years.
TikTok said the collaboration could excite and inspire a whole new generation of fans, and noted Bowie was a cultural icon who was never afraid to push boundaries. Bowie was also always the first to embrace new technology to reach his extensive fan base, the platform said.
“We are truly honoured to welcome David Bowie and his music to TikTok,” added Paul Hourican, head of UK music operations. “He remains one of the most influential and acclaimed artists of all time and his music has defined multiple generations and cultural moments. We know the excitement our community will find discovering his music and creating using the indisputable Bowie sound.”
