Country radio legend Nick Erby racks up 50 years on air

The dean of Australian country music broadcasting, Nick Erby, racks up 50 years on the radio this month.

He started at age 18, announcing on 2VM Moree, before joining Indigenous activist Charles Perkins’ historic 1964 Freedom Ride bus tour through regional NSW. In 1987 Erby moved to Tamworth to host the influential Hoedown, becoming involved in its music festival and awards.

He has been awarded multiple times by the country music scene, and won the US Country Music Association’s International Broadcaster of the Year Award twice.

Erby currently works as a producer on Internet show CMR Online from his base in Banora Point, Queensland.
