Country music golden couple Adam Eckersley & Brooke McClymont confirm album rumours, new single
When Brooke McClymont surprised fans by joining her husband Adam Eckersley on stage at this year’s Gympie Muster, news began circulating that more things were to come.
Today the husband and wife duo have shared their first single and video ‘Train Wreck’ and announced their debut self-produced album Adam & Brooke will be available Friday, February 9 next year.
Adam Eckersley and Brooke McClymont have mused about a musical collaboration for years, but finding time has always been a challenge. After all, the Adam Eckersley Band (AEB) is one of the hardest working groups in the country and Brooke’s commitment to her sisters in The McClymonts has always been unwavering.
“My sisters are busy having babies now,” she laughs. “So Adam and I thought this was the right time for our own thing.”
Embracing that opportunity, the couple – who, between them, have twelve Golden Guitars and two APRA Awards to go with Brooke’s two ARIAs – showcase both halves of the duo with “Train Wreck”.
A swaggering, soulful country rocker, “Train Wreck” delivers a hard-hitting, endearingly honest account of love at full throttle. The accompanying video is directed by Ben Abbott, who also directed The McClymonts “Forever Begins Tonight” video, and was filmed in the New England town of Uralla (near Armidale).
“It kind of covers everything that Adam and I are,” says Brooke. “It shows our personalities, we both sing on it, and the lyrical content, well, it pretty much says, ‘Even if we end up breaking up, it has been a great fun ride.’”
While it may seem a touch bizarre for a married couple’s first single together to ponder the possible demise of their relationship, “Train Wreck” in fact tackles the subject with a maverick spirit that speaks volumes about both singers.
“We live pretty crazy lives,” says Adam. “And whether or not that will end up having a strain on what is a good thing is yet to be determined. But even if it does, there will be no regrets because we’ve been having a blast.”
Like the rest of the album, ‘Train Wreck’ was self-produced by Adam and Brooke at La Cueva Studios in Byron Bay and mixed by Grammy & ARIA Award-winning producer Nick DiDia (Bruce Springsteen, Pearl Jam) with members of AEB serving as the studio band.
“Having those guys playing on this music made such a difference,” says Adam. “And it makes it really feel like our music,” adds Brooke.
Adam & Brooke will be heading out on the road in 2018 for a National Album tour with dates to be announced soon.
