Cold Chisel’s Newcastle Supercars 500 concert sells out as massive new live set drops

Cold Chisel’s Newcastle Supercars 500 concert sells out as massive new live set drops

In another display of its continuing live drawcard, Cold Chisel’s Newcastle Supercars 500 concert has sold out.

The show, with Spiderbait, is held inside the track at Foreshore Park on Saturday, November 25.

Tickets to the race are still on sale but new buyers will be told that this will not give them access to the rock show. (Delta Goodrem and The Veronicas play the Friday night)

Organisers were forced late last week to cap the numbers to the concert to 20,000 for safety reasons as demand continued after advance tickets dried up.

Two years ago, organisers of Supercars Gold Coast also hastily had to cap the numbers to 20,000 when the after-race concert, also headlined by Cold Chisel, looked like going well over capacity.

Chisel’s latest attendance triumph comes as the band releases its biggest live album set yet.

The Last Stand of the Sydney Entertainment Centre – The Live Tapes – Vol 4 covers 32 songs and runs almost three hours.

In December 2015, Chisel ended their massive One Night Stand Tour with three shows dubbed The Last Stand of the Sydney Entertainment Centre (SEC), just before the venue was demolished. The 20,000 tickets for the first two shows disappeared in ten minutes before a third was added.

The SEC was where the band played its farewell shows in December 1983 – reuniting 15 years later.

The Last Stand’ of the Sydney Entertainment Centre – The Live Tapes – Vol 4 was mixed by producer Kevin Shirley and an accompanying film version by Robert Hambling.

The record comes as a 3CD set, a 4-LP vinyl package and a limited edition deluxe3CD/DVD offering.

The audio is also available as a download and on all streaming services.

Aside from the Coates Hire Newcastle 500, the only other Chisel shows are the sold-out Wednesday, November 22 date at Wrest Point Lawns, Hobart and Adelaide 500 on Friday, March 2.
