Cold Chisel named 2016 recipient of Ted Albert Award

Cold Chisel will be honoured at the 2016 APRA Awards next week with the Ted Albert Award for Outstanding Services To Australian Music.

Over the band’s 40-year career, Jimmy Barnes,Ian Moss, Don Walker, Phil SmallandSteve Prestwich have sold almost seven million albums.

Formed as Orange in Adelaide in 1973, with 17-year old Jim Barnes joining in December that year, Cold Chisel recorded five albums between 1978 and 1984. Despite breaking up at the peak of their career, the band’s reunion LP The Last Wave of Summer in 1998 hit #1 on the ARIA chart, the band’s first and only ARIA #1 album.

The band’s 2011 Light The Nitrotour was the biggest-ever by an Australian-based band, with over 300,000 tickets sold, and last year’s One Night Standtour made Cold Chisel the first-ever Australian artist to headline the iconic Hanging Rock to a sold out audience of 18,000.

Previous recipients of the Ted Albert Award include Paul Kelly, Jimmy Little, Slim Dusty, The Seekers and last year’s recipient, Fifa Riccobono.

Also announced today were the performers for next Tuesday’s APRA Music Awards; they are: Urthboy with Kira Puru and Bertie Blackman, The Delta Riggs, D.I.G with Ngaiire, Gang of YouthsandMontaigne, San Cisco, Guy SebastianandThe Living End.

Presenters for the night include: Styalz Fuego, Fiona Bevan, Catherine Britt, Trey Campbell, Suze DeMarchi, Tim Rogers, Maegan Cottone, AdalitaandDon Walkeralongside hostBrian Nankervis, and special guest presenter, Archibald Prize-winning visual artist,Ben Quilty.

The 2016 APRA Awards will be held at Carriageworks in Sydney on April 5.
