CHAII signs global recording and publishing deal with BMG
Rising newcomer CHAII has signed an exclusive global deal with BMG, and today announces the release of her debut EP Lightswitch, set for release on July 10.
The deal with CHAII is part of a broader partnership with BigPop Music Publishing and Black Lotus Records, which welcomes a number of talented New Zealand-based artists to the company.
The Persian-New Zealand rapper, producer and engineer burst onto the scene in early 2019 with her guerrilla release of ‘Digebasse (Enough)’, which earned her over one million organic Facebook views and was shortlisted in the Top 20 for APRA’s Silver Scroll Award.
Heath Johns, BMG’s managing director Australia, said CHAII has “arrived boldly to this party” with her Lightswitch EP and “she’s not politely knocking, she’s kicking down the door”.
“I cannot over-emphasise how excited we are about CHAII,” Johns said.
“She is one of the most talented and charismatic artists I have ever met, and she has a powerful message that BMG will help amplify and take to the world.”
The signing coincides with CHAII’s inclusion as the latest face of Spotify’s local RADAR campaign, an initiative announced in March this year. She’s the first Kiwi to be selected by the DSP.
“I’m so excited to be teaming up with the amazing BMG family,” CHAII said, adding that she was “truly surprised” to be chosen as a Spotify RADAR pick.
“So happy to announce that my EP Lightswitch will be released soon, alongside many more exciting things to come. Lessgo!”.
Earlier this year, BMG also announced the exclusive global signing of New Zealand legend Neil Finn’s entire publishing catalogue, including all Crowded House works.
