Central Station & NextVR partner for VR experiences: “Teleporting fans into the heart of global clubbing”
Australia’s longest running dance label, Central Station Records, has struck a global deal with NextVR, the US-based leader in broadcasting live music and sports events in virtual reality.
The Sydney-based label has a global presence through its artists like Paul Van Dyk, Hardwell, Starley, Above & Beyond, Vengaboys, Timo Maas, Seny B, Freestylers, Public Enemy, Kronig, Oh Snap!, Bombs Away and Odd Mob.
All content is captured and produced by NextVR in a 3D stereoscopic VR format.
The experiences are available for free, to fans globally on a new Central Station Records channel within the NextVR app (nextvr.com).
Executive producer Mike Kerry tells TMN that the whole idea of the experience is that fans pop into clubs, parties and festivals anywhere in the world with ease.
“VR feels like being there – the music, the crowd, the vibe of the party – you’re actually there, in it. It’s an awesome new way to enjoy music.”
The first result of the partnership, from the NextVR studio and hosted by Emmy-nominated Alex Hudgens, it featured Australian DJ Brooke Evers, musical group Killer Hertz and VIP access into Tokyo’s best nightclubs.
Kerry says there are two types of experiences – the five-minute shows and the longer edits.
“In our first show you travel from Brighton in the UK, to LA, to clubs in Tokyo.
“If you like what Killer Hertz were doing with their Fatboy Slim remix, you go to the longer cut to watch their laying the track down in detail.
“If you like the superclubs of Tokyo, you go on tour through the clubs in the longer cut.
“The whole time you’re hearing new music, and meeting new artists.”
He expands: “We want to take fans deeper, especially on tours.
“We hung out with The Stafford Brothers in San Diego, the appearances, the pre-party, the show, the after party, you’re right there with them.
“VR is the most real connection a fan can have, other than being a part of their entourage.”
Kerry acclaims NextVR as “one of the top VR networks in the world.
“They’re based out of the US, and have all the major sports franchises like NBA and NHL.
“They have incredible technology and love what VR is doing for fans.
“Their passion is infectious and we couldn’t be happier.”
Speaking about the partnership, Danny Keens, VP of content at NextVR states: “Central Station Records has been on the cutting edge of dance music since the 1970s, beginning as a small vinyl store in Australia importing disco records.
“From disco and house to hip hop and hardcore, Central Station has helped define what EDM music means and the lifestyle surrounding it.
“Now Central Station teleports fans into the heart of global clubbing.
“From the famed Ministry of Sound club in London, to the dark underground music scene of Tokyo, to party hopping on the club scene in Los Angeles.
“This is VIP access for music fans.”
NextVR is available on nearly all VR platforms.
Fans can download the free NextVR app from the stores associated with Oculus Go, Oculus Rift, PlayStation VR, HTC VIVE Pro, HTC Vive Focus, HTC VIVE, Windows Mixed Reality, Pimax, Gear VR, and Google Daydream.
