Big Day Out feuds with Claremont council over Perth event
The surprise Blur cancellation wasn’t the only drama facing Big Day Out this week.
The Claremont Council is angered that Big Day Out bypassed them and went directly to the Department of Environment Regulation to allow its February 2 concert to run an hour longer, until 11pm.
The Department also gave permission for BDO to handle complaints from residents.
Claremont CEO Stephen Goode raged to the local Post paper, “An 11pm finish is totally unreasonable.” He added that bands tended to grow louder as the night wore on. More so, he explained, it was the Council’s responsibility to field complaints from residents, as these covered traffic, parking and hooliganism – as well as noise.
The Big Day Out are expected to announce a replacement for Blur soon.
