BalconyTV launches live record label
Global online live music channel BalconyTV has launched a record label in conjunction with its owner The Orchard.
BalconyTV Records will produce and release compilation albums of the best live performances from their various locations around the world.
After acquiring the channel in 2014, The Orchard will distribute the compilation albums to streaming services and digital music stores such as iTunes. The label’s debut release will be a compilation series called Live from the Outside.
Since BalconyTV operates in over 60 locations per week, the compilations will feature an eclectic mix of performances that will showcase specific genres with each new installment of the series.
The first volume of Live from the Outside, which is available now, centres on the indie rock genre with appearances from Slow Club, Gothic Tropic, Biddlewood and Moo. Volume 2 and 3 of the Live from the Outside compilation series will be released later this month.
From humble beginnings atop a balcony in Dublin in 2006, BalconyTV has emerged as a leading global online music network. Notable artists have appeared on the channel since its inception including the likes of Ed Sheeran, Mumford and Sons and Kaiser Chiefs.
Jeff Clyburn, President & GM of BalconyTV, said in a statement: “Live from the Outside allows us to highlight the finest performances from up-and-coming musicians of all genres and share them with the world in a new medium.”
The success of BalconyTV can be accredited to The Orchard’s buyout of the network in 2014. The acquisition greatly boosted resources and assets in light of Sony Music taking out full ownership of The Orchard early last year, injecting $200 million to Orchard Assets Holdings.
