AWMA to host #SetTheStandard virtual panel in October

Women across the Australian creative industries are set to band together in a special #SetTheStandard virtual panel hosted by Australian Women in Music Awards (AWMA) and Twitter Australia.

The panel, set to take place on Wednesday, October 6th, will explore “what difference looks like.”

“This panel will not only unpack the issues confronting women in leadership roles and the opportunity to build a more cohesive and inclusive society, we will discuss how women can build a more supportive and successful future together,” says Executive Producer Vicki Gordon.

Set to be moderated by author and broadcaster Yumi Stynes, this year’s #SetTheStandard panel will feature conversations with AWMA Founding Executive Producer Vicki Gordon, CEO of ARIA Annabelle Herd, CEO of Settlement Services International, Violet Roumeliotis AM, and Founder and CEO of Common Ground, Rona Glynn-McDonald.

“We can no longer call out inequality with words and aspirations. All of us in privileged positions of power need to lead with action and conviction if we are serious about creating ‘real’ change,” Vicki Gordon said.

Twitter Australia launched #SetTheStandard, an initiative focused on female leadership, in 2018.

“As an open platform, Twitter works to provide a place where people can tell their own story and connect with communities in a meaningful way. Everyday online, we are seeing female leaders #SetTheStandard consciously and with intention to create a fairer future in a rapidly evolving world,” Kara Hinesley, Director of Public Policy, Government, Philanthropy, Twitter ANZ says.

#SetTheStandard will take place on Wednesday, October 6th, at 5:30pm. To register, head here.

Last month, it was announced that the Australian Women in Music Awards (AWMA) will return next May, capping a two-day event in Brisbane and featuring some of the biggest names in the national music community.

Initially planned for October 2020, and pushed back to October 2021 due to the pandemic, the 2022 edition is set to take place May 17 and 18 in Brisbane.
