Australian venues, acts, promoters rate on Pollstar list

Australian venues are among those effectively turning over ticket sales on a global level, according to US based live music industry trade bible Pollstar.

This lists are made up of data supplied to the magazine by tour and festival promoters and venue operators.

In its 3rd quarter sales report, eleven local venues made the grade.

In the Top 200 Arenas list, Qudos Bank Arena in Sydney made it to #31 after shifting 266,739 tickets during the period.

Perth Arena was at #51 with 209,154 sales, followed by Brisbane Entertainment Centre at #60 with 184,793.

At #92 was Sydney’s Hordern Pavilion (107,551) beaten in the region by Auckland’s Vector Arena at #86 with 117,537.

In the Hot 100 Clubs, Melbourne’s Corner Hotel made it to #33 with 68,590 sales, while Brisbane’s Triffid made the list for the first time at #68 with 45,436.

Sister clubs made the end of the list, with Northcote Social Club in Melbourne at #96 (with 27,377 paying customers) and Sydney’s Newtown Social Club at #98 with 27,144.

Melbourne’s Palais Theatre was at #27 with 140,518 patrons in the quarter in the Top 100 Theatre Venues, while Byron Bay’s Tyagarah Tea Tree Farm – home of the Bluesfest and Boomerang festivals among other events – reached #38 at quoted figures of 100,227.

In the Top 100 Promoters list, Adelaide-based Adrian Bohm Presents which concentrates on comedy tours, had the highest ranking of Australian tour companies for the first time at #49, with 237,736 sales.

It beat Frontier Touring with 204,400 tickets (#61), Bluesfest Touring with 165,456 (#71), Chugg Entertainment with 44,997 (#89) and Dainty Group with 97,292 (#100).

Live Nation Australia and New Zealand’s figures were rolled into the parent company Live Nation, which topped the list with 29.9 million.

Four acts, which had their beginnings in Australia, also made the global Top 100 Tours.

Keith Urban was at #35 after drawing 429,969, and 5 Seconds of Summer at #44 with 389,270 ticket stubs to show for their growing appeal.

Hillsong United were ranked at #64 for moving 249,896 tickets while AC/DC, despite taking a break during this period when singer Brian Johnson had to drop out, had 198,587 ticket shifts, which placed them at #80.
